About John Satterberg
John Satterberg is a retired clinical psychologist who became seriously involved in fine art, black & white photography in approximately 1995. He studied at the University of Oregon and went on to receive a Ph.D. in psychology at UCLA in California. After teaching at the University of Toronto and being in the private practice of clinical psychology for a number of years, he was attracted to photography as an expressive medium. He initially used the large-format Linhof Technikardan 4×5 camera as well as the medium format Mamiya RB67 camera. He has travelled extensively throughout western and southwestern United States, Scotland (Orkney and Outer Hebrides Islands), Ontario, the Maritime provinces, and Newfoundland to photograph landscape scenery and the abstract detail of the environment. Four years ago he and his wife moved from Ontario to Twillingate, Newfoundland where they enjoy the quiet and rugged beauty of this corner of the world on the edge of the North Atlantic Ocean.
Workshops:
Currently Dr. Satterberg offers both one-on-one and group photography workshops in his hometown of Twillingate, Newfoundland. These involve field trips to neighboring photographic locations such as Fogo Island, Greenspond, Salvage and Burnside, the Baie Verte peninsula, etc. as well as instruction in camera use, composition, “learning to see,” etc. as the situation demands.
